To Vail with it
By Jason Ashley Wright
I miss Colorado.
Last spring was my first visit, and it was fabulous – shopping in Denver, walking in Boulder and, my favorite, celebrity-watching in Vail, which has the coolest manhole covers ever. Eye for detail, Possums, eye for detail.
The folks from Vail obviously recognized how cool they are because they’ve started making manhole cover jewelry called, surprisingly, Vail Manhole Cover Jewelry (right).
Fortunately for the weak of neck, it’s not a real manhole cover, but jewelry fashioned to resemble one, featuring the ski town’s famous V logo, founding date and elevation.
The product line features 16 handcrafted pieces like a manhole cover necklace with sterling silver charm and chain, two-tone sterling silver/bronze manhole cover French cufflinks and a Tiffany-style bracelet with bronze manhole cover charm, all designed by Vail’s J. Cotter Gallery.
All proceeds go to support Vail’s Art in Public Places program. For more info, call (970) 479-2344.
